In 1979, Laos was basically dependent on Vietnam to fight off insurgents. That's 35 years ago. Laos is now more developed and is economically and politically linked not only with Vietnam and China but also with Thailand and other countries. Time has changed and Laos has to learn to play her own card in order to survive.

the situation won't be worsen and Laos has to choose which one to stand in, if there is no ways else and the situation forces Laos to be in one of them, no doubt Laos will be on Vietnam's side. don't you know the special agreement between Laos and vietnam which Laos and vietnam will fight alongside each other. second Vietnam becomes a number one foreign investment in Laos and both have a very deep relationship in politic and military . To maintain that benefit, Laos will help Vietnam.

Yes, totally agreed with you on that. PDR government need to be careful which side they should be. even though Vietnam helped put them ( PDR) in power in Laos , But China also helped them a lots too in the past few years. So PDR government need to be smart not to take side.
