The only way Vladimir Putin can retaliate or get back to America is: Dump American Dollars as their reserve. But, Can he do that ? Maybe, but their Russian ruble would go down to the toilet.
Let put it this way, ever since Russian took Crimea, they have lost 12 Billion Dollars already if you guys really follow the Market lately.
Crimea is too small as compared the collapse of USSR and loss of its territory. there are so many unsettle territory issues after the collapse of USSR. Crimea joining Russia is legitimate because it has never been controlled by Kiev and Russian ethnic is most of population. Importantly, it used to be a part of Russia before being handed over to Ukraine in 1954.
the same applied to Kosovo, Former Yugoslavia states and so on.

if Chinese live in Northern Laos more and more in the future, the city as Luang Nam tha, Borkeo, when there is the unrest or crisis in the area, Chinese red army will deploy its troop to the border and control the area, The city may take the referendum as in Cremea and want to Join China??? if what happens in Crimea is successful, it will become the good example for people live in other countries.
