The Lao are too lazy and ignorant to protect their own heritages, cultures, and food. Padeak is the same as Prahok in Cambodia. The Khmer believe Prahok is theirs. Even the music instrument Kaen (or Khene) has not been able to be licensed for protection by the Lao. Every claims it as theirs.
fermented fish also exist in european countries such as france , sweden, finland, russia. I've tasted it when I was little boy, it has exactly the same taste and odor as our traditional padaek but in better shape and better conserved, it was canned fermented fish.
