(KPL) Last year there were many challenge and outstanding events have been held in Laos, which posed a positive for socio-economic development in Laos.
The 10th rank was that the event of Lao government has agreed to improve and develop infrastructure of the tourism sites to welcome the Visit Laos Year 2012 and attract tourists come to visit Laos.
The 9th was a groundbreaking ceremony to develop a specific economic zone of That Luang marsh area of Vientiane Capital on 365 hectares with almost 12,800 billion kip (US$ 1.6 billion).
The 8th was the construction of a 200-km stretch of high speed railway connecting from Savannakhet province to Lao Bao border (Laos-Vietnam) with investment of US$5 billion. The project was invested by a Malaysian investor, which will be started operating early this year.
The 7th was the salary rising for civil servant from 3,500 kip to 4,800 kip per index and 760,000 kip of extra support. The 6th, the Lao PDR has succeeded to host the 16th ASEAN University Games on 12-20 December that the Lao students bagged 32 gold medals with a surplus target.
The 5th the National Assembly approved the construction of Sayaboury hydropower construction dam which was investment of US$3 billion.
The 4th, Laos-China railway construction was a total investment of S$7 billion.
The 3rd, Laos-Vietnam joined to mark the Solidarity and Friendship Year 2012 in Ban Dongsavanh, Sepone district of Savannakhet province on 12 December and the 50 anniversary of diplomatic ties and 35th anniversary of the signing of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty.
The 2nd Lao PDR become a World Trade Oorganisation membership, which approved on 26 October after the Lao PDR proposed to be a WTO membership in 1997.
The top one, Lao PDR has successfully hosted the 9th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 9) Summit on 5-6 November, which was the biggest and historical event hosted by the Government.
