(KPL) Over 800 people have been killed in road accidents nationwide over the past twelve months, according to Head of the National Road Safety Committee Secretariat, Mr. Viengsavath Siphandone.
Among those killed in road accidents, the majority is people aged between 15-44 accounting to 80 per cent of the death toll, the official told the launching ceremony of the"Safe Driving by Helmet Wearing"campaign on Saturday.
In Vientiane alone, almost 200 deaths have been reportedly killed in 2,000 road accidents over the last one year. Over the past 15 years, as many as over 5,000 road accidents have been recorded with over 500 people killed in road accidents on an annual basis.
"The road accident is on an increasing trend, by 7 per cent on a yearly basis. Meanwhile the annual damage caused by the road accident is almost 50 billion kip,"said Mr. Viengsavath.

i think it s a new record of Laos , I never saw such a big number of death caused by road accident.
according to the increasing of vehicle in Laos, many of drivers are lack of knowlege and carefulness
the road accident due to the structure of road and so on.
hope the police or related office work hard to decrease the accident in this year.
