Nahh , ever since asian market crashed in 1997, Lao kip devalued more than 80% and more stable. In line with other asian currencies. Kip notes were issued originally in denomination of 500, 1000, 2000, and 5000. when the purchasing power dropped so much that 10.000, 20,000 were aded (2002) and in 2006 50,000 kip notes were released. Interestingly, Only reverse shows 50,000 in the western number script, click on the image to enlarge it 100,000 lao kip bank notes were isuue printed to commemorate Vientiane's 450th anniversaryin 2010 But will not be put in into circulation or available from ATMs around Vientiane... anytime soon...... So as for your question about the notes 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 kip, they no longer used... the reason why ? my answer is above....... and any lao official who said that global financial crisis in recent years do not affected Laos economy, that mean that person or official know nothing about modern world market economics that's for sure.......

you need to ask a Lao treasury department or commerce department about this thing, I really don't think many lao people kno that in here . Why ??? you wanna test if lao people kno that ?
