Siam comes from the word "Xam". Xam is a word that relates to water. Perhaps, water that surfaces through rock and earth. Siam or Siem are the same word. It is orginally a name of an area and is not a name of a town, city, people or country. It is recorded on Angkor Wat's wall of armies from Lavo and Siem marching. Central Thailand was definitely controlled by the Khmers of Lavo, and Ayuthaya Kingdom was not even founded yet. It was more likely that the Siem were actually people from around the Mekong River. Perhaps the Khmer of Angor just simply called the multi-ethinic people that inhabitated the Kingom of Sikhottabong as Siems. There is speculation that Vientiane might has been an important centre of the Siems since Vientiane is a settlement that can be traced to Dvaravati peroid.

My neighbor might be right be cause both SIAM and SIEM are Kmer languages.

I do not doubt your neighbor, but just because the word is cambodian now, it does not mean that its origin is Khmer. Siam as describes on the wall of Angkor Wat is not located in central Thailand because Ayuthaya has not founded yet and Lavo is defintely identify as Lopburi. So where is Siam or Siem? Interestingly on the ground of That Luang, there is a statue of Jayavarman VII. This indicates that the Khmers has relationship with the people of the Mekong River in Thailand and Laos long before the establishment Ayuthaya and Lanxang. Who to say that the Khmer did not pick absorb other people cultures. Cultural exchange is a norm rather than an exception.

Yike, your comment is nausiating because it is reeked with chauvinism and racism. Please forward your point of view as a civilized adult and stop using insult to degrade and dehumanize other race and culture. Lao people are better than this.
Sure I agee with you:
Lanna people were Lao. Sukhothai people were probably Lao. Lanxang people were definitely Lao.
You are Lao only if you call yourself Lao and it does not matter if you live in Laos, USA, France, Canada etc. Let's stop calling people Lao when they no longer consider themselves Lao.
"But Ayutthaya kingdom had made by Siam people
Siam not related to Lao people"
These two statements are wrong and absurd. If cultural and linquistic evidents are not enough to link Lao and Thai together than what is? The divergence of Lao and Thai is understandable because over time each culture have evolved and absobed neighboring cultures. Thai has incorporated a lot more Khmer and Mon cultures into their than Lao.
One more thing, in Lanxang history with regard to the legend of Khun Borom, Ayuthaya is supposedly founded by his fifth son who name is ""Khun Ngua In". The story may be truth or made-belief but it is cleared that the people of Lanxang considered the people around the Chao Phraya River as their kins.

I see only Thai people are using fork and spoon when they're eating KFC and pizza. KFC is American food and Pizza is Italian food, they designed those 2 foods eat by hands, not by fork and spoon like Thai people are doing. The original Thai people eat by hand is the most. Eat with fork and spoon is not Thai tradition at all, that is European tradition but Thai want to be........ from Europe.

Siam changed to Thailand during World War 2, 1943... Because, Siam though that Japan would win the war and conquered the world. Therefore Siam allowed Japan came through and helped to build the bridge crossed the Kail river. If Japan win the war then Siam will have the land in South East Asia that any country has the name with the word or tribes start with ( Tai or Thai )such as: Tai Lao, Tai dum, Tai Daeng, Tai Lau,etc...All these Tai or Thai live in China, Burma Vietnam Laos, Cambodia,Malaysia..
Thai or Tai= Tribe or thai barn, thai mueng, thai nun thai nee.
Thai is not mean (freedom) as Thai referred
Therefore they changed it to THAILAND. Unfortunately Japan lost the war, and Siam stuck with the name Thailand until today. The word LAND is an English word not Siam's language they use this name similar to ENGLAND vs Thailand. Thailand is more like England colony ...
Why Thai keep saying that ( u yang phoa phiang) living with simple life? Have you ever gone to Lao's Palace in Laung Phrabang. It is simple and not fancy or luxury as Thai Grand palace... The Lao king and Queen bed room just simple... Because they want to live as simple life as Lao people.
Siam means stupid mokey people and don't have no brain these poeple steal and robery for their lives. stealing someones's belonging then they call themselves and they own it.
To compare with my lao brain and your Siam and feel like smarter than Siam's brain. Lao people have been spoken. As you can see for yourself. Lao people can read and write siam language and Thai event can not read Lao language how stupid you are.
