Vientiane Vice-Mayor chairs meeting on used car shop control
(KPL ) A meeting on the control of used car distribution outlets, chaired by the Vice-Mayor of Vientiane Capital, Mr Anouphab Tounalom, was held to disseminate information on registration of imported and exported used cars in Vientiane, last Friday.
The regulations on the registration of the import and export of second-hand cars in Laos have come into force since August 2008 and 444 used car shops have subscribed to this system. The Industry and Commerce Service of Vientiane Capital had ruled that the cars that are traded in the second hand market should be registered with this ministry.
The registration authority said Laos had 101 companies that imported cars and 19 companies that exported cars and all of them had been given permission by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to carry out such businesses.
According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, 229 used car distribution outlets in Vientiane or 75 percent of the total of such outlets were found to be sub-standard.
In Sikhotthabong district, 59 used car distribution outlets had not registered with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The authorities have warned that substandard used car shops will be removed from the ASEAN Road, Kaysone Phomvihane Street, Souphanouvong Road (Luang Prabang Road), and the City Wall kampheng meuang Road in November this year.
