Good question,

I think in old days, we do not any electricity supply the light during the nights, in those days my family in the country used to have oil-lamps (we use oil from pork) in our house (1980s), later we have diesel instead but that we had to buy from the town (20 KM away).

Anyway, look at the temple, where will they get oil? Since they do not kill the pork, how can they buy diesel? As they do not make any money...and other reason that the monks in temple use plenty of candles while praying as well. Thus, offering candles and wax that can produce candles is advantage for the Buddhism monks and that have been practicing up to now, what do you think? I could be wrong !!!

Are you in Laos or oversea?   If you're in Laos you should know since you was in 6th grader. In my generation, we learn and read this story on 3rd grade. Did you born and grow up in oversea?
Go to any Monk Temple and ask " Yah Por " or " Koo Bar " they will helping you.  It's impossible for you that you don't know all of this story if you're in Laos.

2/. If I ask you a couple of questions about Laos you probably stuct !!!! I am sure...

3/. I was a novice two times (one in 1998 when my grandmum passed away at her 93) and (Second time was 2002 and that was Bouard Nark).

4/. I am in oversea just for study and will graduate next year. Futher, I am studying here on my own capital, I can apply for resident if I want to as I am not holding any scholarship that have obligation to go back to Laos. But I am not interested in living in oversea because Laos needs skilled peopl. Well, I might come back after I went back to Laos few years later for further study. How's that? biggrin
