In some Asian countries, stray dogs are killed because they are a nuisance and can carry rabies. In the west, there are many dog breeds that are taken care of and properly trained by owners. You have to be responsible for feeding them, walking them, and bringing to veterinary, etc. We have an Akita Inu that is very clean, loyal and protective. He watches the house and properties when no one is at home. He comes to greet us at the door when we return and is happy to see us back. He doesn't seem to be in bad mood.

Yes, for responsible owners it's quite expensive. Therefore, mostly for third world people, the idea of taking care of dogs to such an extent seems like dog owners are crazy. But it's worth it for those who can afford it as the dogs bring companionship, love and joy to you, especially for old people who live alone, and members your family. For some irresponsible owners once the lovely puppies grow to become big dogs they no longer want them, they bring those dogs to animal shelters for various reasons, most of these dogs are euthanized if no one else wants them.
