Over 300 traffic police deployed to monitor school traffic

(KPL) The Vientiane Capital Traffic Police Department has prepared over 300 police officers to monitor intersections within the capital in an effort to prevent traffic jams at the opening of the 2013-2014 academic year, an official has said.
"For the start of the academic year, we have cooperated with traffic police in seven districts to recruit 306 extra police officers in order to facilitate traffic flow at congested intersections," said Director of the Vientiane Capital Traffic Police Department, Lt. Col. Phoummachanh Souanbounma.
This is to ensure smooth traffic flow at T-junctions and crossroads including Hongseng Traffic Lights, That Luang Traffic Lights, Nong Douang Traffic Lights, Sisavat Intersection, Comcenter Roundabout, 109 Hospital Roundabout and byroad schools.
Lt. Col. Phoummachanh added his department was ready to make greater efforts in ensuring convenience for motorists in days to come, and implement the six work plans the Vientiane Capital Public Security Command has devised to address traffic congestion, reduce road accidents and maintain the orderliness and security along the roads.
Police officers have also been dispatched to Sangthong and Mayparkngum Districts, where the traffic is less congested, to work with the management of local schools in facilitating the traffic flow in school nearby areas.
