How much money Laonork sent home to Laonais to build houses, start new businesses, and help pay for young Laonai educationa and prevent them to look for work in Thailand? How many Laonork doctors go back every year to help treat Laonais? How many sons and daughters of Laonais come to study abroad and are taken care of by Laonork? How many Laonai officials go to foreign countries and warmly received by Laonork? How much Laonais misss their Laonork relatives and repeatedly ask them to come to visit Laos again and again.

Look my dear Lao friends, NO big deal whether Obama would like to visit Laos or not. It has less to do with capitalist or communist than with the US politics of the moment. The LPDR is not begging Obama to come to vists Laos. Neverthheless, under Obama he has at least ordered an increase in the funds that the US provides to clear the unexploded bombs in Laos. Hillary was there a few months ago. Obama goes to Burma because there is a new change of direction (openess) happening in that country after decades of isolation. He goes to Cambodia because of the SEA meeting going on there where he will meet with his Chinese counterpart and other Asian delegates, including those from Laos.

He may select John Kerry, a former Vietnam war veteran, as a new secretary of state. Kerry, or whoever gets that position, will likely look/work more closely with the Lao goverment on the consequences that have been left over by the Vietnam war, that had been ignored by previous administrations.

 When I heard on my local news PS OBAMA is doing a visit South East ASIA Country, but not Laos it hurts my feeling the most. I normally came hear and read some post here once while, but once I saw this topics, I got hard feeling. I hope the Web Master won't ban my IP for some reason.

Whether you voted for him or Romney would not have changed anything. It's just politics as usual. The republicain Romney would not go to Laos for sure. I don't really care that Obama does not visit Laos this time. It's not important at all. What he has done and will be doing during his second tenure is the most important factor. He has already increased funding for bomb clearance. I think he will do more. Wait until he has dealth with the more urgent matter like the fiscal cliff first. I hope he chooses John Kerry to replace Clinton for the State job. But I heard that Kerry will get the more complicated job of secretary of defense, while the secretary of state will go to Susan Rice who doesn't know much about Laos or the legacy of Vietnam war in Laos, compared with Kerry.
