Mr. Matti Myrberg has been Finland's first honorary consul in Lao PDR since August this year. In recent years, Finland’s activities in the country have increased in many areas including the development cooperation and tourism.

Mr. Matti Myrberg has been living in Vientiane more than eight years. He is married to Mrs. Chandavon where they have built a home near Vientiane. Mr. Myrberg was retired in 2010 after working abroad for over 20 years. His work experience is around electrotechnology.

Mr. Myrberg has been involved in training, consulting and supervision tasks in Ethiopia, Egypt, Saudi-Arabia, Nepal, India and Thailand. Laos was the last country he worked before retiring.

Mr. Myrberg is a main figure among the Finnish community in Vientiane. He organizes gatherings for the Finnish Independence Day and Midsummer Festival.  There are about 40 Finns living in Vientiane.
Honorary consuls are private individuals who take care of their tasks on a part-time basis without remuneration. Together with diplomatic missions, they promote economic and cultural relations between Finland and the country. Moreover, they take part in strengthening Finland’s image overseas.
