Nahh I wouldn't agree with you on that he doesn't like central thai language, he happen to be in the Northeast (Esarn Region) and settledown there with his esarn wife. So people in the esarn region still practice and speak lao in their normal life and I'm not surprise that he's influence in lao language instead of central thai language.
in the past Lao language use widely , even now some area of the country surrond Laos they still use Lao language for sample Yunan (12 phan-na) some area in burma also
in xiengtaeng combodia including part Esarn of thailand
John Thomson still well and alive somewhere in midwest. He used to live in New York City for a while. So not many lao people remember him especially the younger generation.
