I agree with your opinion. 

Lao people should not jump up and down because Vientiane will look somewhat modern. Look at other countries and their cities that are now so-called modern and developped. Look at what is underneath the surface and the consequences in the future and what really Laos has to pay for. Is this a well thought out plan!

China sees its own benefits everywhere in the world and Laos has to weigh its own benefits and consequences too. Don't be duped!

 I really do appreciated for your concern brother Bigchai. But , you know what ? Laos is way different than thailand. Why different ? because Laos is still a communist country and lao law is topper than Thailand. and Thailand is free society so people pretty much do whatever they please and most of them don't even follow the law especially thai politicians as you know... as for development, there's no such thing is too fast or too slow. we live in 21 century.

 Of course , it is possible but stop deluding yourself  and face the reality .  Very well life without dream is no future . American dream happen only when you sleep  unless you really pursuit your dream and make it come true.

Any Chinese come to Laos the Chinese government pay $10,000 USD per person to work in Laos and stay for good. So any Chinese workers came to Laos will never go back to China.  China will choose and pick the Chinese homeless and skate road in China to settle in Laos.

 The Chinese  billionaires and millionaires who will settle in Laos by millions , will not all going to become a Lao Citizen and they don't have to but to be the boss, only a large number of Chinese who Chinese government pay $10,000 dollars per person to come as the workers and to settle in Laos that what we are worried about. China would build the whole country and have 40 million Chinese immigrant in Laos in one year that is no problem at all to do so. The best way Lao government must develop  Laos on their own hand  and don't expect  any free lunch from any one. Not Every Body wins if not careful study a big price will be paid by Lao people. Good that China will developed Laos built the high speed railroad and Hotel , Casino and robber plantation and mining , hydro power dams and other project as well but in what term to benefit national interested and unless no more Chinese to immigrate in Laos in large numbers. Would Lao government ever try to do on their own .The answer must be NO. Chinese are very smart business people and they do that not because the Chinese love Laotian . It is good to see Laos more developed and trade with China and Vietnam and  Thailand and sell natural resource such as  wood and other  from mining  to neighboring countries . Time wil tell and wait and see .

 I strongly agreed with both of you ( Thai and English comments ) above. Remember! Nothing is free in the world of business.  What CCCP and Vietnam took thing away from Laos after the war is over to pay back war's loans? What was happened to real PRABANG?????  What's happening to Laos forests????...........Soon or later CHINA will own LAOS for sure like they have done to Sudan.

China influence all around the world ,not only Laos.  One way of the other China must get their feet in Laos which in the door way to southEAst Asia. Also if there are conflict with Vietnam  over the Spratly island in south China sea, China  will have  the military advantage  to go through Vietnam from Laos.
