The total construction costs (about 6$billion) will be borne by the Chinese gov. Laos government do not contribute to this project in financial terms, but will hold 30% stake provided that Laos government give land on both sides of the railways (5x2 km) for the Chinese family to do whatever they want with the land.
We all shoundn't be proud like some dumb politicians who claim that it will be amazing for Laos to be the first country in Asean to have highspeed train.

I couldn't believed that this topic is appeared again. This topic was done sometime ago, the Lao gov't cannot afford to let the Chinese taking over
a land. Lao gov't owns 30% stake, Chinese owns 70% stake plus big junk of land. That's no, no, it won't happen.
On the other hand, in Thailand it doesn't work that way, Thai gov't own 70%, Chinese owns 30% with no land to offer bcoz the workers will be all Thai pple.
where in lao, the workers will be all Chinese. Do u see the different here? 100% sure it won't happen at least not now. Besides, no underdevelops nation in the whole world has had speed train or bullet train anywhere. Only in the developed nation have had these luxury things.
What historic for Laos??? All the Chinese truly want is to use Lao land for their rail link to sell their products and trade with bigger economies like Thaliand, Malaysia and Singapore. Laos happens to be on their way. By letting the Chinese build their railroad through Laos, Laos will be under the control of China more and more and will be flooded by poor southern Chinese looking for job opportunities in Laos. There are already so many illegal Chinese workers in Laos. These guys all came with tourist visa and refuse to return to their country. The Lao government cannot send those illegal Chinese or Vietnamese back because we own them something. Laos is too sparsely populated and doesn't need those trains.
