Vientiane officials are hoping to obtain funding to improve street lighting and landscaping along roads and in public parks, after signing an agreement with a Korean company.
Officials from the Vientiane Public Works and Transport Department last week signed an agreement for a feasibility study on sourcing funding for street lighting and landscaping.
The agreement was signed by department Director General Mr Dedsongkham Thammavong and President of the NARAE Electric Company of the Republic of Korea Mr Park Jong Ho.
The feasibility study will allow the NARAE Electric Company to seek low interest funding from the Korean government, said department Deputy Director General Mr Ounneua Sylavong. It is expected the study will take six months to undertake.
Lighting is vitally important for giving roads, public parks, residential areas and offices a bright appearance and to guarantee road safety, Mr Ounneua said.
He added that many roads in Vientiane have been upgraded but still don't have street lights, while some public parks also have no lighting.
Vientiane officials have urged local residents to help improve various aspects of the city, including lighting, security, cleanliness, green spaces, overall attractiveness, and modernisation.
