VIENTIANE, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- Although no Laotian is directly affected by the tsunami disaster that hit 12 countries in Asia and Africa on Dec 26, Laos is not standing by doing nothing.
The Lao government has announced that it is donating US$200,000 to help victims in Thailand, Indonesia, India and Sri Lanka, the Laotian News Agency (KPL) reported on Wednesday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Somsavat Lengsavad disclosed this at a meeting organised specially to look at fund raising for tsunami victims.
The death toll from the tsunami hit 150,000 to-date, leaving countless homeless and wrecked.
Somsavat said that the contribution of Laos shows the compassion of the Lao people to help in a small way. It is also a chance for Laos to repay its gratitude to countries that had helped Laos in the past.
In addition, President Khamtay Siphandone, Prime Minister Bounnhang Vorachit, Deputy Prime Minister and Somsavat have sent condolence messages to leaders of the affected countries.
The Lao government on behalf of the Asean Standing Committee has coordinated with Indonesia and other Asean member countries to hold an informal meeting on the natural disaster on Jan 6 in Indonesia.

Hi, thank you for your answer but my question is that what does the Lao Govt do to help Thailand in developing the country or to donate money when Thailand's facing a problem, for example a natural disaster. I know it's uncommon to see a least-developed country help a more-developed country in terms of development, but I just asked this just in case.
Pls answer my question to the point to prevent controversy. I ask you to share your idea or give an answer (if you'd love to), not me to you.
