Party leader lauds greater ties with Laos and China

HA NOI — The Party, State and people of Viet Nam would try their best to develop relations with Laos and China, said newly-elected Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Party leader made the statement yesterday while receiving Thoonglun Xixulit, Special Envoy of General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Chummaly Xaynhaxon; and Wang Jiarui, Special Envoy of General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party and President of the People's Republic of China Hu Jintao.

Trong affirmed Viet Nam had consistently implemented a foreign policy based on independence, self-reliance, peace and co-operation, that of openness and multilateralisation so as to integrate into the global economy.

Viet Nam was committed to strengthening relations with neighbouring countries.

The Party, State and people of Viet Nam had always attached great importance to the friendship and support of the Party, State and people of Laos and of the Party, Government and people of China for the country's development, he said.

For their parts, the two Special Envoys conveyed messages from their Party General Secretaries and Presidents, congratulating General Secretary Trong and the Party Central Committee for the success of the 11th Party Congress. They expressed their belief that under the sound leadership of the Vietnamese Communist Party, Viet Nam would gain greater achievements in industrialisation and modernisation and successfully implement the congress's resolution.

The Lao special envoy, who is Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Party Central Committee's International Relations Commission and Minister of Foreign Affairs, affirmed that the Party, State and people of Laos would try their best to strengthen and develop the friendship, solidarity and co-operation between the two countries. He conveyed the Lao Party General Secretary and President's invitation to Trong to make an official visit to Laos.

The Chinese special envoy, who is member of the Party Central Committee and Head of its International Liaison Department, affirmed that the Party, State and people of China would work to develop the two countries' partnership.
