Tha was good Prince Souphanouvong asked Vietnam
and Cambodia not to vote for France to build rail road
in Laos. If they did, all miners in Laos will be gone before
Laos communist took over power.

Yes, you are right! AND what about somebody is going to build railway in Laos now, do you think they are aiming for their potential benefits or not? I think they do have eye on something as I believe that there is ‘No such a free lunch’. What do you think?

Of course, there will be logging trucks hauling logs toward China once the railroad from Jinghong to Vientiane commence construction later this month.   Nothing is free.

You might be right. We don't know how many mountains

that they will cut in half and make the tunnels passing

underneath of them. They will find the way for some miners

are under ground to build railroad from China to Vientiane.

What was the  reason why laos doesn't have a Rail Road while in Frech Colonial ???  -

Here why, During that time In France Pulic opinion strongly opposed expansion of Frech responsibility in this strange and faraway land, especially sine it appeared to offer little in short-term economic return.  As early as 1866, a french survey determined that the Mekong was valueless for commercial navigation.  No gold or Silver deposits had been uncovered(I think french lace of technology at that time 555) they think, there appeared to be not even an Iron mine worth developing, at that time, they surveys have revealed some low- grade deposits... Depite french efforts to exploit a Tin mine in Khammouan Province and to plant coffee on the Bolivens Plateau,  Laos never accounted for more than one percent of total  French export trade from Indochina. French engineers built beautiful and durable  roads in Vietnam and Cambodia, but almost ignored Laos. They did construct an arterial road linking the larger towns along the Mekong -Luangphabang, Vientiane-Thakhek, Savannakhet, and Pakse.  this road was officially called(Route colonial 13) but the section linking Vientiane and Luangphabang , the country's two capitals, has been long termed  (the Royal Road) It was not completed until April 1943..... Some historians, particularly british historians, see the france's colonization of Laos as the result of a single- mined french determination to occupy as much territtory as possible before the British could get to it, or to set up a solid bulwark against the British in Burma. but this explanation misses the most noteworthy fact about France's involvement in Laos, It had no positive Aim. Instead, had a negative purpose of restraining Siamese influence on the left bank of the Mekong ,which it french felt jeopardized their more valueable holdings in Vietnam... even though, they the French built very small Rail-Road in downsouth and in thakhek, but it was not intended for transportation thru-Laos, it was for some small valueable thing that they toke back to their country(France)....

You hit it right at the head brother..you absolutely right about what you said bro.. that's why our country(Laos) lace behind Vietnam and Cambodia because frenchman doesn't really pay much attention to Laos...

Look at the first Australian Thai Lao bridge and the link with the Australian Lanexang Mineral Company. and see why the australian government helped to build that bridge ? How many us $$$ Autralian government got from Xepon mining. and how many $$$ thailand got from it construction : Cement , Steel, even gravel they took from thailand for the bridge construction , Laos got some manpower hirings and sand for construction ... it was all...it is true that there were never had a free lunch or dinner my friends ... So, Be careful when you see the smiling investors who come to laos and distributed $$$ as helps or assistances , they surely will get many more than they gave !!!
