THAIR and KOLN are same meaning.

THAIR is Phasa Lao
KOLN is  Phasa Bali

Some part of Loas using " KOLN " instead of " THAIR "
mostly in Luang-Prabang, Xieng Khouang and Huaphanh.

When they shave monk head they only say " KOLN "

KOLN is more polite word than THAIR, they use this word
for upper hairs like your hairs and mustaches.

THAIR is normal word and they like to use for lower hair,
your legs hairs and your private spot hairs.

If you want to know mor eabout these two words please feel
free to ask your local " GNA-PHOH " U wath der.

Watch your language mister!

That's local language ( PHASA THONG THINH ) of Tai Xieng O.K.
I am also 100% Son of Muong Sauy, Xieng khouang.
Before to be LOLN HUAR or HUAR LOLN like you said, they
have to shave first right? [ THAIR or KOLN ].
Just go back to ask your grandma once for sure.

I'm from Laung Phabang my grand parents from both of my parents are Laotians and this is what I was told, before you shave someones' head his hair has to be KOLN HAUR first after that then is THAIR HUAR.

LOLN or JOOT, isn't for when you use fire to burn something? As in LOLN FAI or JOOT FAI?

You missing understood on word of [ LOLN ]
This [LOLN] means bald.
HUAR LOLN = BALD HEAD

If you use with FIRE, those words are:
LONH, KHANG, YANG, PING, PHAO ans JOOT.

LOLN and LONH are different words from its
meaning.

Phasa lao is not easy to study, it's hard more
than France and English for me when I was in
LYCEE de VIENTIANE. My france and English
got me good score than my Lao section.
