SanamLuang is in BangKok Thailand, not in Vientian Laos. This name will be confusing for foreign tourist when Laotian asks them to visit SanamLuang. They know only one SanamLuang in Bangkok. Who created this name anyway?
I personally disagree with the word"SA NAM LUANG" because this word has already used or named by other countries. We should keep the word "THAT LUANG or PRA THAT LUANG" if the word SA NAM is necessary to keep, the new name should be "SA NAM THAT LUANG or SA NAM PRA THAT LUANG" I think it is better than the name that similar with other naion use word SA NAM LUANG. Again, if we name it as "SA NAM THAT LUANG" many people will know it is Laos.

Thai had several SANAM LUANG's in their country. The one's nearest Vientiane is SANAM LUANG THUNG SRIMUONG UDORN THANI. We sould pay respect to King Xay- Sethathiraj who built and gave the name of DERN PRATHATLUANG for 100 and 100 yeras. May be they want to change new name for our country, like our brother neighbering country of Burma to Mynmar, never know. Sooner or later Vientiane will changing to new name too, like Parking and Saigon.

The people who live surrounding That Luang like Nong Bone, Naxay, Sisangvone, Hong kei, Phone thanh, That Luang ty, That Luang Neua, Pamoung, Thong Khounvieng, Kor Phay noy, Phonkeng, Phonxay even Hoa Khoa, Xamkhay, muong Noy, Xiangda and Nakhoy all called SANAM KUANG KHEE for100 years and years. Populor name that all the country knows is DERN THAT LUANG.
Some one cut THAT out and throw it away, only keep SANAM....and...LUANG together. Only a person who crazy about Thai that's why calling SANAMLUANG. We need to donation a person who created this new name to Thailand, I believed him or her want to be Thai more than Laotian.
If you like to add SANAM in the name we already had its old name, and most populor too: SANAM KUANG KHEE.
Back off Dude!!! Who teach you and where did you leran historic of King Xaysethsthiraj from? The real old name was "DERN KUANG KEE". According to King Xaysetha history, he built " KHUANG KEE " for The King and Khar TEE KEE match during first anniversery of That Luang borned's festival ( BOON SALERM SALONG VANH KHOP HOB NUNG PEE KHONG THAT LUANG ). The people just added DERN into KHUANG KEE and later became populor name DERN KHUANG KEE. New name was changed to DERN PRATHAT LUANG in 1946 and the whole country knew this name well since then until now. Another nam local people surrounding That Luang call only DERN THAT.
